Remove Cyclotron number 2

Since July 2024, all our productions have been carried out with the latest cyclotrons IBA Kiubes from our modern manufacturing facility in the Imaging Center Amsterdam. The cyclotrons (or particle accelerators) in the W&N building on the VU campus have finished their work and will be given a new purpose. Last saterday it was the turn of cyclotron number 2 to continue its valuable work elsewhere in Europe.

Safety

This cyclotron has now had sufficient time for the radioactivity to decrease, making a safe move possible. With the experience we gained when the first cyclotron left Amsterdam at the beginning of 2024, we have been busy over the past period to properly prepare the lifting for this cyclotron as well. The lifting and transport has been coordinated with the ANVS (Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority). Mammoet and KBK construction group have again delivered professional work this time. After which Cristian Neniscu from Ammo Imaging was able to transport the machine to its new destination.

Durable

After a thorough upgrade, this cyclotron will continue its services in Eastern Europe. There it can still do its work very well for scientific research and small-scale production of medical isotopes.

Team power play

Every cyclotron removal requires dedication and expertise. We can proudly say that this second cyclotron has also been safely transported, thanks to the tireless efforts of our entire team.

Future

The last cyclotron will soon also find its way to a new destination. In the summer of 2025, the W&N building will make way for the new design of the VU campus. Our focus remains invariably on supplying medical isotopes and radiodiagnostics to hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and research centers all over the world.
